For the past three years Churches in Croydon have been coming together to take part in an outreach event called ’On the Move’. Out of this has grown a vision to see Churches in the borough of Croydon unite in a month of mission in May 2008.

At the time 'On the Move' co-ordinator, Steve Mullins, was talking to some of Croydon's church leaders about 'Love Croydon', it became apparent that several organisational leaders from across the UK had already met and had started to coordinate a nation-wide initiative called Hope08.
 
It became clear that the emerging vision for 'Love Croydon' was very similar to that of Hope08. Both groups envisaged churches working together in evangelistic outreaches and social action in their local areas, with the possibility of some larger scale events taking place.  
 
'Love Croydon' aims to see the Churches of Croydon united together in the proclamation and advancement of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in ways which are relevant and accessible to Croydon and surrounding areas. Therefore, starting from the launch date of 1st May 2008 Churches across the borough are being encouraged to join together in their own areas to find creative ways of loving Croydon and sharing the Gospel, the good news of Jesus Christ, with the community around them. We’d love as many churches as possible to be involved with this initiative as we seek to reach out to Croydon with the love of God and the Gospel.
